CHEMICAL PEELS
WHAT IS A CHEMICAL PEEL ?
A Chemical
Peel is a method of exfoliation using alpha or beta hyroxy acids to break up
the bonds between the surface epidermal cells, so allowing these dead surface
cells to be removed. This creates changes in the skin by stimulation of epidermal
growth, destruction of specific layers of damaged skin and collagen stimulation
in the dermis.
At Imago, we only perform superficial peels
that require no recovery or down time. However, the cumulative
benefits of repeated peels can produce results as good as deeper
peels without the risk.
Chemical Peels can improve
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Irregular pigmentation and sunspots
- Acne and acne scarring
- Large pores and blocked pores
Generally creates a softer, suppler, younger looking
texture
Chemical Peels are often combined with microdermabrasion at
the same treatment. We call this a micropeel (see
below)
WHAT TO EXPECT
After the
skin is cleansed and prepped an acid solution is carefully applied
to the face and your skin reaction observed. You may feel warmth
in the skin or a stinging sensation. Further layers of acid are
applied according to treatment goals and your skin reaction.
After a few minutes the acid is neutralized or removed. Then
a vitamin lotion or serum can be applied to provide nutrition
and help stimulate cell renewal and collagen repair.
Immediately
after the procedure your skin will be a little red, but this
will last 1-2hrs only. Over the next few days you will notice
a softer, smoother feel to your skin. It is important to continue
with quality skin care products to help your skin heal and a
good sunblock is mandatory as you will be
more sensitive to the sun.
WHO CAN BENEFIT
This is
an excellent treatment for nearly all skin types. It is safe and effective
for those people who may not be able to have microdermabrasion, such as fragile
skin with broken capillaries or rosacea.
CONTRAINDICATIONS (WHO CAN NOT
BE TREATED)
- Active skin
infection. Dermatological conditions associated with scarring.
- Photosensitizing medications, especially Accutane.
- Women
who are pregnant.
RESULTS

MICROPEEL
This is a combination treatment of microdermabrasion and chemical
peel. Performing a microdermabrasion before the chemical peel
allows deeper penetration of product to enhance the effects.
This treatment only takes one hour, and a complete course of
weekly micropeels for 3 weeks followed by one every two weeks
for 6 weeks will produce a significant improvement in texture,
color, wrinkles and blemishes.
